Facebook News has been launched in the Facebook app. The new section is being rolled out in the US from today.
News articles will appear in the main feed of user accounts as well as being located under a specific tab, Facebook News, that has been developed in conjunction with publishers. The content will have human editors and a team of journalists highlighting the important stories of the day but it will also use an algorithm to push relevant stories to users.
Users will be able to browse sections, much like traditional news outlets, including health, science, tech, environment and sports. Hiding articles and topics as well as subscribing to categories will also be possible.
In a blog posted about Facebook News by the social media network they explained, “People want and benefit from personalized experiences on Facebook, but we know there is reporting that transcends individual experience. We want to support both.”
